The broken Japanese vase

offered with sorrow

colors of a clear river

not just a vessel for holding blooms

but next to your heart

the ebb and flow of a son's life

a river lost in the right direction

the smoothness of the glaze

meets the cracks

tempering function

never its beauty

never its gifts
